To promote capacity-building in the afterschool field at the regional and local levels, NYSAN supports regional afterschool networks. There are currently six regional networks in New York State affiliated with NYSAN. In addition, NYSAN works closely with leading afterschool stakeholders in New York City.

Regional networks help local stakeholders share best practices and coordinate local professional development resources to support program quality improvement. Regional networks also provide a mechanism for information exchange and action on state and local policy issues. Most NYSAN-affiliated regional networks hold monthly or bi-monthly membership meetings and develop training events for afterschool professionals in the region. To further support regional network development, NYSAN facilitates a Regional Networks Statewide Group that brings regional network leaders from across the state together on a quarterly basis.

Regional Networks Statewide Group

All regional network members are invited to participate in a statewide group that comes together on a quarterly basis to receive updates and guidance on policy, network development and system-building for the afterschool field, and to network and strategize on issues of common concern across regions. Participation is voluntary and is open to all regular participants in regional networks affiliated with NYSAN. The Regional Networks Statewide Group is led by two Representatives who sit on the NYSAN Steering Committee and provide regional perspectives in NYSAN leadership conversations.

To learn more about these opportunities or to access resources from past events, please see Regional Networks Statewide Group and Professional Development.

Regional Network Affiliation Requirements

To affiliate with NYSAN, a regional network must operate as a public-private partnership serving a multi-county area of New York State and must share NYSAN's mission to increase the quality and availability of afterschool programs for all school-age children and youth. Groups wishing to become an affiliated regional network must submit a signed Regional Network Affiliate Form which outlines the criteria, responsibilities and benefits of affiliation. As a NYSAN affiliate, regional networks benefit from receiving timely information on afterschool policy and funding in New York State, opportunities to offer feedback and local perspective on key issues to state afterschool leaders and access to technical assistance from NYSAN and its partners. NYSAN also supports regional networks by providing each with a listserv and website.

Learn more on the regional network in your area, including news, events and training activities or contact NYSAN at info [at] nysan.org to inquire about starting an affiliate in your region.

A regional network does not currently exist in the Southern Tier region (Broome, Chemung, Chenango, Schuyler, Seneca, Steuben, Tioga, Tompkins, and Yates Counties). If you are interested in starting a regional network in this area, or if you would like to participate in a neighboring regional network, please contact Sanjiv Rao at srao [at] nysan.org.
