The Regional Leadership Group (RLG) offers a forum for active members of affiliated Regional Networks to come together on a quarterly basis to receive updates and guidance on policy, network development and system-building for the afterschool field, and to network and strategize on issues of common concern across regions. Participation is voluntary and is open to all regular participants in regional networks affiliated with NYSAN. The RLG is led by two Co-Chairs who sit on the NYSAN Steering Committee and provide regional perspectives in NYSAN leadership conversations. RLG participants must commit to participate for one full year.

NYSAN Regional Leadership Group Statement of Purpose

The NYSAN Regional Leadership Group (RLG) brings together active members of the regional afterschool networks in New York State that are affiliated with NYSAN. Its core purpose is two-fold: 1) to facilitate two-way information exchange between regional stakeholders and leaders at the state level to better inform and disseminate information about state policies and programs; 2) to support system-building at the local level by providing regional network leaders with information and support to build the interest and capacity of regional stakeholders to expand the quality and availability of afterschool programs. The RLG operates in addition to NYSAN's direct interaction with individual regional networks. The RLG will offer participants:

  • Information about best practices undertaken in other communities to expand afterschool through regional/local initiatives.
  • News and information about major trends in public policy and resources for afterschool at the state (and national levels).
  • A forum to identify questions and concerns regarding state policy issues and to compile information and feedback to share with state leaders.
  • Opportunities to build key skills and knowledge needed to be more effective leaders and advocates for system building in their communities.
  • Opportunities to network and share common challenges with colleagues from regional networks elsewhere in New York State.
  • Access to statewide public and private sector leaders in the afterschool field in New York.

To establish a group that is both diverse and representative of different needs and concerns across the state, but also allows for in-depth discussion, NYSAN seeks to include a limited but diverse group of public and private agency representatives from each affiliated regional network.

The RLG meets three times per year by conference call and once annually in-person for a day-long symposium. To join the RLG, you must be a member of a regional network.
